Tips to keeping your stove hood filter clean

Tips to keeping your stove hood filter clean

4th Jun 2021

A range hood filter is one of those household items that is easy to neglect when it comes to cleaning. But when you think about it, it should be something that is regularly kept clean as it gets smashed with grease particles and odours on a daily basis. A really dirty filter can become a fire hazard, fill your home with toxins, and also it's bound to attract pests like cockroaches to your kitchen.

So, here are some tips on how to best clean your range hood filter.

For the regular rangehood filter cleaner:

1. Fill your sink or a large pot with near boiling water.

2. Pour 1/4 bottle of Tea Trees Heavy Lifter liquid into the water.

3. Remove the rangehood filter gently and spray whole greasy side surface with Tea Trees Heavy Lifter

4. Put the filter into water to soak for 15 minutes, turn so the other side of the filter is in the water and soak for a further 15 minutes.

5. Remove rangehood filter from water, spray again with Tea Trees Heavy Lifter.

6. Using a non-abrasive brush (like a toothbrush) or a tough cloth (like a Tea Trees Bamboo Cloth) scrub the filter.

7. Repeat step 5 & 6 on the other side.

8. Completely rinse with cool water and let the filter dry completely before inserting it back into the rangehood.

For the rangehood filter clean that hasn't seen a wash for a long while:

1. Fill your sink or a large pot with near boiling water.

2. Drop a whole Tea Trees Heavy Lifter refill tablet into the water.

3. Remove the rangehood filter gently and spray whole greasy side surface with Tea Trees Heavy Lifter

4. Put the filter into water to soak overnight, turning the filter over so each end has an even amount of time in the water.

5. Remove rangehood filter from water, spray again with Tea Trees Heavy Lifter.

6. Using a non-abrasive brush (like a toothbrush) scrub the filter.

7. Repeat step 5 & 6 on the other side.

8. Completely rinse with cool water and let the filter dry completely before inserting it back into the rangehood.

It's also a good idea to regularly clean your range hood at the same time. The Tea Trees Heavy Lifter or The General both work extremely well with a cloth and some very hot water.

Happy cleaning! Thanks to a happy Tea Trees customer Angie Poole for sending in these photos of her range hood cleaning process.
